The Villans visit Old Trafford

Image
By Olumide Lawal It's time for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to focus on climbing the table in the Premier League as his team host Aston Villa on Sunday. The Reds have been mostly inconsistent with results all through this calendar year and that was also evident in their 2-1 loss to Astana in the Europa League on Thursday. It was a game that had lots of academy youngsters since United has already qualified to the next round and just another result that didn't build on the second half performance at Sheffield last Sunday. OGS obviously has the support of United hierarchy but the Norwegian needs to know the game is all about results nowadays with his supposed rivals (Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal) getting rid of their managers in recent days. Searchlights will be beamed on him if things don't change as soon as possible The visitors haven't been doing badly and they've won the same amount of games as their hosts since they gained promotion

United settled for a draw at Bramall Lane

Image
By Olumide Lawal Manchester United left the Steel City with just a point after an entertaining 3-3 draw with Sheffield United in the Premier League. It was the hosts that scored first at the third time of asking after some brilliant saves from David de Gea but the Spaniard was rightly beaten when his recent save deflected off  John Fleck on 19th minute. The Blades doubled their lead seven minutes into the restart as Lys Mousset fired from outside the box after Andreas Pereira lost possession in midfield. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men found their way back into the game with some quickfire goals from Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford and went ahead for the first time in the game but they succumbed to a McBurnie strike at the death. A draw seem like a fair result but it was a game either side could've won easily if only they knew how to defend. 5 talking points from Sheffield United 3-3 Manchester United 1. Ole got it wrong from the start OGS

Bramall Lane is next for Man Utd

By Olumide Lawal Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United travel to South Yorkshire to face the organised Sheffield United in the Premier League on Sunday. It is the first of 11 games left for the Reds in 2019 in all competitions. The visitors have been in good form of late having won five games out of six in all competitions while the hosts are unbeaten in their last 5 outings. Chris Wilder's Sheffield United's return to the top flight has been so impressive to watch especially for neutrals. The Blades have stuck to their famous style of play from the Championship (which encourages overlapping centrebacks) to the Premier League and they've somehow managed to keep the majority of players that implemented this unique tactics so well. Manchester United have to be at their clinical best if they are gunning for all three points at Bramall Lane as the hosts has the second best defence in the league after Leicester City, having conceded 9 goals in 12 games but t

United gets back to winning ways

Image
By Olumide Lawal Manchester United beat Brighton 3-1 at Old Trafford to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. Goals from Andreas Pereira,  Davy Propper(own goal) and Marcus Rashford were enough to condemn the Seagulls to a defeat. The Reds started the game with the needed intensity as they dominated possession in the first 15 minutes of action. United were soon rewarded with an opening goal after Pereira's tame shot was deflected into his own net by Stephens. Two minutes later, a Fred free kick was bundled into Matt Ryan's net by Propper after the Australian goalkeeper failed to deal with Harry Maguire's knock down. Lewis Dunk pulled one back for the visitors with a header from a corner but Rashford restored the host's two-goal lead to send United back to 7th on the log. Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, will be happy with the points but would surely be critical of his forwards who missed plenty goal scoring chances, especially in th

Man United welcome Brighton to Old Trafford

Image
By Olumide Lawal Manchester United are hoping to return to winning ways in the Premier League with the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion to the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday as the last international break of the year beckons. The spirits are high in the camp of the Red Devils after they oversaw a comfortable 3-0 victory over Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night as the team booked their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League with two games to spare. A win on Sunday will be a big boost for Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been a subject of heavy criticism from a large section of United supporters that feel the team's league position of 10th after just 11 league games isn't good enough for a club that pride itself as the biggest in the world. Anything less than 3 points this weekend will surely add more pressure on OGS but he'd be banking on the duo of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to continue their goal scoring form. Tea

United cruise into the second round

Image
By Olumide Lawal Manchester United cruised into the knockout stages of the Europa League with two games to spare in Group L after beating Partizan Belgrade 3-0 under the Old Trafford floodlights. Goals from United's front three Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were enough to see off their Serbian counterparts. The Red Devils started the game all guns blazing, creating chances with ease and could've been three goals ahead in just 15 mins' if only Marcus Rashford was donning his scoring boots in the first half. The Englishman missed three clear cut chances in the opening minutes as he found spaces behind  Partizan's defenders on multiple occasion. United didn't have to wait much longer as a low cross from left wing found Mason Greenwood in the box, the youngster twisted and turn from right to left and sent Partizan Belgrade's goalkeeper the wrong way to open the scoring for the home team. Anthony Martial got the team'
